Hi everyone!!!!
The Penny Arcade Expo is coming up soon August 31st-September 2nd. Was curious to hear who all is going!! I'd bring Fella with me but I'm afraid he'd run off on his own and get lost. This will be my second year and I'm so excited should be super fun happytimes!!!! I saw quite a few Doctor Who's last year around.. I'm trying to finish my Amy Pond Night Terror's scarf in time to wear. I have 19 strips left to go and 23 days left to finish it. I hope to see lots of deviants there!! :excited:

FAQ Revamp PT3

Another busy week for the FAQ Revamp. Some new FAQs have been added and we removed quite a large number of FAQs, but have no fear the majority of the information removed was actually merged to create more beneficial FAQs or it was completely obsolete. Since the beginning of our project we have removed a total of 42 FAQs and added in 15.

The following are some of the things we have worked on this week.

Under My Account the section "My Earnings" has been added and three brand new FAQs have been created. FAQ 123 has been relocated here.

FAQ #97: How can I see how much money I've made?
FAQ #98: Can I cancel a check after it has already been processed?
FAQ #99: What should I do if I never received the check I requested from My Earnings?
FAQ #123: When will I receive my earnings check?

The deviantART>News section has been completely removed as none of them were relevant anymore

deviantFilm section was reviewed

Merged FAQ 671, 760, 761, 858, 863, 868, 869, 865 into a single FAQ to match up with the Collection Folders equivalent
FAQ #762: What is the Gallery Folders Feature and how do I use it?
FAQ #6: What is the Collections Feature and how do I use it?

Mergd FAQ 866 into FAQ #864: How can I add or remove deviations from my Featured Gallery section.

Merged FAQ 22 into FAQ #21: Where can I obtain the source files for the deviantART Mascot and logo?
This FAQ was also updated with the most up to date file sources.

Screenshots have been added to FAQ #6: What is the Collections Feature and how do I use it?

We've had a lot of great feedback in the past two articles. Thanks so much to everyone who's taken the time to leave some feedback. We are almost done reviewing all of the FAQs within our area and then we'll be cross checking each other's FAQs to make sure everything is completely up to date and include beneficial links where possible. We still have numerous FAQs we will be adding screnshots to so keep an eye out for those. We'd also like to expand the Direct Help Desk category links to CEA and Retail related FAQs. :)

FAQ Revamp Project Update pt2

Hi deviants!!!!

Another update from the Help Desk Team about the FAQ Revamp :D We started with a total of 302 FAQs not including Retail and Copyright & Etiquette related FAQs. So far in the past 2 weeks we have reviewed 218 and have 84 left to review. It may seem like only a small bit left to go but we still have a lot more planned.

The following sections are ones we have reviewed this week completely/partially:

deviantART>Guides (removed out of date FAQ 602 and moved FAQ 90 to deviantART>My Account>Your Profile Page) this section has been eliminated

We've been making a list and checking it twice to make sure FAQs that could be greatly benefited from Screenshots are noted down. Some FAQs have already been improved by fancy new screenshots done by $Ikue We'd love to hear from you all if there are certain FAQs you believe could be benefited from Screenshots. Please note though we only want to add screenshots to the ones that can truly benefit from it to make it easier for those who might have difficulty understanding the text or locating the information.

Check out what the new screenshots look like in FAQ #400: I created a group but users cannot join. How do I let them?


Links that suggest you contact the Help Desk are being modified to take you the Contact Form with the category you need automatically set! Yes that's right you can link someone directly to a specific category of the Help Desk :w00t: For anyone who wants to give this new addition a whorl simply add /?category= to the end of the contact link and then add the category name. Here is an example this one sends you directly to Bug Reports. [link]

We loved all the responses sent in on the last update and hope you keep them coming. We are taking in suggestions for new FAQs, recommendations on FAQs that need attention due to being rusty, confusing, or ones that need screenshots. Please keep in mind though that we are only updating FAQs within our area so this does not include any FAQs that are Retail or Copyright & Etiquette related.

FAQ Revamp Underway

The Help Desk team myself $ewm, $Ikue, and $Thunderstatement have been super busy making sure that all of your General Inquiries and Bug Reports get handled as soon as possible. Our current initial response time is no more than 48 hours this week! We are super pleased to announce that we’ve been doing a lot more than handling tickets lately. We are doing some serious business FAQ Revamping to make sure all FAQs are completely up to date and easy to understand. We are also merging similar FAQs to reduce redundancy to keep the overall FAQ amounts low to ensure it’s easier to find the information you are looking for.

We started the FAQ Revamp last week and we’ve already covered a little over 100 FAQs!! The following FAQ sections are ones we have already tackled or are currently in the process of tackling.

We’ve relocated some FAQs for easier locating such as all Point FAQs which were originally located in the Prints section are now located in the main section of the FAQ page under Points.

FAQ #400: I created a group but users cannot join. How do I let them?
FAQ #401: I’m experiencing problems with my group, what can I do?
FAQ #402: I’m an admin in a group but cannot perform administrative actions, why?
FAQ #403: How will others know that I’m part of a group? How do I know what groups I'm in?
FAQ #404: How do I upload an avatar for my group and what are the limitations?
FAQ #405: How do I leave a group I no longer wish to be a part of?
FAQ #406: How do I remove a user’s deviation from my groups gallery/favs?
FAQ #407: How do I remove my deviations from a group?
FAQ #408: Can I delete my group?
FAQ #410: What are the official deviantART groups?
FAQ #430: Can any member of the group submit deviations to the group's gallery?

We hope that these changes make it easier for everyone to find the information they are looking for. If anyone has any thoughts on our FAQ Revamp project please feel free to leave a comment on this blog post. We’d love to hear what you guys think of what’s been done so far and if anyone has any recommendations on FAQs that are getting rusty, are confusing, or maybe there’s something you feel is missing from our FAQ please let us know! :)

Status Forum Concerns

Hi Everyone!
I wanted to thank everyone for the responses on $Thunderstatement’s Blog Pro Tip: Don’t Wait to Report a Problem. There was quite few concerns about the state of our Status forum and we are working to address this because it is most definitely a valid concern and we greatly appreciate those who brought this to our attention! :hug:

For quite some time we tried to reserve the Status Forum to the most urgent issues which resulted in parts of the site being completely unusable resulting in high counts of tickets and concerns, to make sure that everyone was made aware of the issue as quickly as possible. By doing this the Status Forum remained quite small due to these types of issues not coming up as frequently and when they do the deviousTechnology department is sometimes so fast the issue gets fixed before we get to press the “Add Article” button! :o Due to this our Status Forum appears quite dead despite the many issues that might occur on a weekly basis.

Several smaller issues can happen on a weekly basis that aren’t as severe as the ones we normally post up, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t important! We understand there is frustration when Bug Reports are submitted and result in getting told it’s a known issue even though there isn’t even on the Status Forum. In light of this we will be working our best to make sure more posts are made concerning the latest bugs that affect multiple deviants. Keep in mind though that there are some issues that we simply cannot(or will not) post such as security issues, minor typo issues, and issues that are only affecting a single person. We want to ensure that we can keep you all informed on all the buggies creeping around the site and encourage everyone to subscribe to the Status forum to keep up to date. :w00t:

Quick Stats Overview


Over the course of 2011 Community Operations solved 34,249 General Help Inquiries, 17,981 Bug Reports, 2,931 Chat/Forum Inquires, and 46,399 CEA tickets. That's 101,560 tickets over the whole year. WoWZA!!!

For comparison, in 2010 we solved 33,787 General Help Inquiries, 19,083 Bug Reports, 1,730 Chat/Forum Inquiries, and 40,281 CEA tickets for a grand total of only 94,881.

Our Help Desk


The deviantART Help Desk is home to three teams:

  1. The main Help Desk team, in charge of answering tickets related to General Help, Bug Reports, and Chat/Forum Inquiries;

  2. The Copyright and Etiquette Administration, responsible for Abuse Reports, Account Ban Appeals, Policy Inquiries, COPPA Reports, DMCA Reports, and Spammer Reports;

  3. The Retail Customer Care department, which handles all retail-oriented inquiries. The Help Desk is open Monday through Friday. Most issues, aside from CEA matters, are able to be resolved within four days -- and often, much quicker.  Due to their nature, CEA-related tickets require more time for investigation, and as such, the response time is greater.

Recent Improvements


We have been using Zendesk to run the Help Desk since September 2009 and it has greatly improved our ability to provide the best assistance possible. Over the course of 2011, we were able to add several new features to the Help Desk, including:

  1. Two CEA ticket sections -- COPPA Reports and Spammer Reports -- that allow us to better monitor these types of situations.


  2. Additionalrequirements for filing Abuse Reports: name of offender and direct links to the abuse. These requirements have greatly reduced the amount of time it takes to make sure these situations are handled as diligently as possible.


  3. Ban Appeals are now exclusive to only deviants who are banned and need to appeal their ban. An amazing 49% of all tickets submitted to this category prior to the change had nothing to do with appealing a ban. The change allowed us to make sure that all Ban Appeals are truly banned deviants seeking to appeal their ban.


  4. "Satisfaction,"a tool to help gain feedback on the satisfaction of the tickets we handle. When tickets are solved, deviants are able to vote either "Good Satisfaction" or "Bad Satisfaction" and can optionally leave a response stating why the satisfaction rating was given.


* Please note that the Help Desk only includes tickets submitted via the Help Desk Contact Form. This does not include all reports made using the report violation button on deviations which are submitted to the Moderation Desk.







Ticket Satisfaction

We began using the Satisfaction feature in April, and have maintained a positive rating of 84% across the entire Help Desk. This includes all departments within Community Operations, as well as our Retail department (which handles all tickets relating to deviantWEAR, Prints, Points, AdCast, and payment  support for Premium Memberships).  Each department also has its  own rating over the past 60 days.

Holiday Seasonal Delays

Hiya everyone!!!!
Tis the season to be jolly :holly: and the season for Help Desk delays :noes:! During the Holiday Season the Help Desk closes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. These Holiday closures along with an increase in ticket submissions causes response delays on top of any current delays. In order to help keep these delays to a minimum please make sure to submit your tickets to the correct categories and also to keep all information concerning your issue in a single ticket as submitting multiple tickets can clog up the desk. :snowing:

Help *HeWhoWalksWithTigers Raise Funds for Freeland Foundation


Hi there everyone!
Continuing his wildlife conservation efforts, *HeWhoWalksWithTigers will be interning for the FREELAND Foundation. His efforts towards wildlife conservation is awe inspiring and the many people here on deviantART that have helped him reach his goals towards wildlife conservation is equally inspiring. In order to help with this new project he has started a fundraiser which you can find more information about in his journal. I hope he's able to obtain his goal at spending at least 6 months in Bangkok helping out with Tiger and Elephant conservation. :w00t:

It's Neck and Neck!!


Hiya everyone!
Just thought I'd give a shout out from the Help Desk to let you guys know how things are going. It's been a super amazing week for Bug Reports and General Help. To give you an idea of how awesome these sections are doing Bug Reports has a total of 88 outstanding tickets (includes new, open, and pending tickets) and General Help has 260 outstanding tickets. Please remember that these two sections are handled exclusively by myself, $Ikue, and $Thunderstatement

In addition to that awesomeness, while checking on our stats I found out we've got some close numbers going on for top solved tickets for the week! at one point the three of us were sitting at 260 solved tickets a piece!

Our New Sugar Gliders (Now with Videos)

Momo and Petrie


Over the past couple months Linhart (~Cryosis) and I have been researching getting Sugar Gliders for pets. We were lucky enough to meet some local Sugar Glider owners and go to a Sugar Glider Gathering where we learned a lot about them and were able to hold and pet them for the first time. Absolutely irresistible for sure! After much consideration we have purchased two gliders from Tracy a local breeder. We have named them Momo and Petrie and we met them last Sunday. Needless to say their cuteness has captured our hearts and we look forward to welcoming them into our home sometime around Christmas.

Need Fluffy Advice

Sugar Gliders


I've been really anxious about getting a pet.. I've always had at least one and now that I'm moved out I need a fluffy buddy. Was thinking about a hamster... Lindy wasn't too keen on that but he's always wanted a pair of Sugar Gliders which I've done a lot of researching and I definitely think we could manage that :D so I've been busy looking up cages, cage sets, toys, food, etc. If any of you guys have ever had one or know someone that has let me know I'd love to hear what you guys have to say! :)

The Aftermath


Last Friday, I flew to Los Angeles for the big 10th deviantART Birthday Bash with my bf Linhart ~Cryosis ...was extremely crazy but loads of fun :D Spent time with all the staff at HQ :wow: it's changed so much since I've been there last. It's such a great environment :dance: Got to see a lot of staff that I haven't had the chance to see in over 3 years and met a lot of staff I haven't had the opportunity to meet w000 everyone is awesomesauce!!! :huggle: I love you guys!!

Saturday was the big day and oh mai was it busy lots of stuff to do. Unfortunately the lighting conditions weren't too grand for photos but took quite a few videos which I'd love to share with you guys :D For me the party was seeing deviantART living and breathing physically.. seeing the community in action especially with the launch of deviantART Muro... being able to see deviants drawing live and submitting their works was amazing something I'll never forget!

Sunday was a bit of a hectic day had a wonderful breakfast with Linhart, $Ikue, `shuttermonkey, $zilla774 and his wife Monica and daughter Emily at IHOP and then back off to the hotel. Our shuttle back to the airport was extremely late but still managed to make it there with enough time to get some See's chocolates and a mocha frap mmmmm delicious!

I hope that everyone that had a chance to go to the big House of Blues bash, any of the satellite meets, or spent time on dA during the Birthday had tons of funtiems!!! :party:

Washington!!


Lots of big news in E land!! Last Sunday I flew out to Seattle to surprise my bf Linhart (~Cryosis) He had absolutely no idea I was arriving earlier than anticipated (my move date wasn't until August 1st). Some friends of ours including ~miss-elaineous picked me up and I crashed at Elaine's for the night. Elaine called Linhart Monday morning saying she got a surprise for him in the mail needed him to come pick it up. I gave her a Canon Lens mug to give to him as the "surprise" and while he was oooing and ahhing over the awesome mug I walked in the room and surprised him. His face can be pretty much be summed up with :| he looked absolutely perplexed. Needless to say he was super happy that I arrived early :excited:


dA Bday Bash!!!





I'm extremely happy to announce that both Linhart and I will be attending the super awesome dA Bday Bash at the House of Blues :excited: I'm looking forward to getting to hang out with all the deviants, some I've met before and others getting to meet for the first time :D I'm also looking forward to checking out HQ I haven't been there since Dec 07 it's changed so much since then :wow: should be good times! I'll also be bringing my ladybug with me as well as my camera be on the lookout I'll be taking lots of photos and videos :paranoid:

Gallery Opening Reception

Early today well rather I should say yesterday it's past midnight, my Mom *Tazzy- had her gallery opening for her very first gallery exhibition at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory.

She has a total of 48 framed prints that she mated and framed herself up for display until August 29th. Each print was printed here on dA. I'm absolutely proud of all the hard work she put into this show and how beautiful it looks! I'm hoping she'll sell quite a few prints. :)

Dad and I had a super surprise in store for her that we have been planning since last year. Dad got a medium sized plastic tote and filled it full of peppermint patties.. but wait .... are we sure that the whole box is really full of just peppermint patties... or is there something more to this box! Concerning Version 7 Issues

Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to remind you all that as with previous version and big feature launches we would like to ask everyone to take the time to immerse themselves into the new version before submitting any Help Desk tickets. We would recommend not submitting any tickets concerning the new version until 24-48 hours after the launch.

I'd also like to mention that responses to Help Desk tickets will experience some longer than normal delays due to an increase in tickets. We are diligently working on all the incoming tickets.

We appreciate your cooperation and hope that you all are enjoying the new version. :party:

SQUEEAKIE SQUEEAKIE!!

As you all know I absolutely love testing bugs.. I get to poke, shake, squeeze, and figure out what ails them so #dt can fix em up and let them be on their way and our of your hair! .... cause we all know we don't want bugs in our hair right.. right!

In order to continue on with my love for bugs I have been asked to take a part time position at a bug factory (who's name I cannot disclose at this time) where I will get to test the squeakers :eager: OMG I KNOW I absolutely love squeaking the ladybugs. Maybe the factory will let me take some of the test subjects home for presents for my doggies :aww:

What is EWM and What Does EWM Mean?

Every once and awhile the question this question comes up. EWM is the artistic name I haveused since around the start of 6th grade. EWM is the first intial of my first, middle, and last name. and it is simply said E W M as single letters. So why do I like my intials so much? Well if you take a closer look if you take E and rotate it to the left 90 degrees it turns into a W. If you take W and flip it vertically you get M, so EWM is actually all the same letter. For the most part I sign everything EWM unless I am required to write my full name.
