On June 30th my mom *Tazzy-
brought me home a female Polyphemus Moth. She was shaking a lot and we set her on a tree hoping to get photos of her. She fluttered off a bit and we had to run after the moth to make sure she didn't get away before we got some decent photos. She landed on our apple tree and we started to take more photos only to realize she was laying eggs. She only laid 8 eggs and flew away by the end of the day. Normally they lay about 200-250
The Caterpillars hatched out on July 9th. They have gone through their first molt which is refered to as the 2nd Instar. They go through 5 stages before they cocoon. They will get very big about 3.5 inches (90 mm).
