Artist's Comments

I found this lion chewing on a Tidy Cat Kitty litter box quite amusing, but I also found this really sad. The enclosure has 2 male lions and I think it was too small of an area for just one lion alone. This lion was at the Potawatomi zoo in South Bend. It is an ok zoo its not the best but its definately not the worst. My major issue with the zoo is the larger animals just don't have enough area in their enclosures where as some animals like the Red Panda which are small animals have well over the equivelent of space. The have almost the same space as the 2 male lions do...now that just isn't right.

The Potawatomi zoo has been going through some renovations so I'm sure the lion exhibits will be renovated in the future to give these lions the room the deserve =)

*Edit*
"Room to Roar

If you haven’t seen it already the construction of the addition to the lion exhibit is in full swing! 1600+ additional feet are being added to the existing lion exhibit - doubling the space for the lions to roam.

Thanks to you and the money you spent riding our new zoo train we have raised the funds necessary to build a bigger home for our lions “Tango” and “Onyo”. Last year over 60,000 visitors road the train, with all of the ticket money going directly into exhibit renovations. Most zoo visitors surveyed felt the lion exhibit should be first on the list! “Tango” and “Onyo” thought so, too."

Daily DeviationAt first glance, Mr. Tidy by =ewm is a hilariously incongruous photo, but upon reading the description, one realizes the problem with many zoos, and feels pity for Mr. Tidy. (Featured by `amolerouth)

while it may be a funny pic, the story you tell with it is sad.. but rest assured zoo's must pass a major inspection ever year to make sure the animals are treated right..and even in the wild tigers dont go very far much either they usually prefer to stay very close only moving to find new food.

yea its just sad that in the enclosure is around the size of 2 and a half my bedroom size. Where as when you go to the Lion exibit at Cincinnati they have soo much more room. At least 2 times if not more.

Is the lion trying to tell us something? As if he was trying to say "I need you to run out and get me a box of Tidy Cats litter. Make it fast, will you?" I love how he's looking almost directly into the camera with a "I'm being serious" look. Nice work. :)

Nice shot young lady. You really can't see the Tidy Cat logo in my photos. I think that was because someone was in the spot I wanted to be in and by time they left, the lion wasn't holding this the same. I wonder who that could have been? LOL
