Jack o'lantern mushroom by ewm Jack o'lantern mushroom by ewm
Mom and I found these on our way home from campus. They are gathered around a large tree in the neighborhood park. There were several clusters of them ringing around the base of the tree. An interesting fact about these are they have the same chemical found in fireflies that make the gills of this fungus glow in low light :o sounds cool!

500D eh, you're advanced! don't you mean 300D?

:giggle: 500D is not a camera ;)
It is a close up filter basically a big chunk of magnifying glass that works wonders at getting closer especially if added to a macro lens ;)
[link] <- there is a list of the Canon close up filters including the 500D
Here is a photo of the 500D on a 100 mm macro [link]

oh... interesting. i thought you were supposed to get a higher zoom lens to zoom in... or a teleconverter. how does this method stack up with the others?

When I mean closer I mean you are able to focus closer so if the lens I have can only focus as close as 1 ft away with the 500D I could focus maybe about 6 inches closer. A teleconverter makes the lens closer than it normally would be without you moving. If you put a 1.4x Teleconverter on a 300mm lens it becomes a 420mm.

Just remember its not the camera that takes the photo its the photographer in order to take a good photo one must have an eye for it and its not just the camera itself. ;) The camera model is actually outdated by 2 newer models but it still does great!

It all depends on what you want to shoot and how close you want to be. A normal 50 prime wouldn't be able to get this close so I had to use a 500D filter to be able to get closer to them.

Hexe does take beautiful images and yes we do shoot similar subjects, but we are still able to get our unique outlook on what we shoot through our images.
I also have her to thank for how well my photos have been coming out lately. She encouraged me to buy L lenses the best of the best and due to this encouragement and her showing me photos I'd drool over  I got some better lenses which have drastically improved my photography.

I like the focus of this picture, I really like how you single out the mushroom in the front from the rest. And the horizon of it is perfect. And, maybe you should take a picture of it at night, just to make it interesting. Keep up the good work!
