This is my second project I worked on for the Tour de Fleece. This is 8.3 oz of Optim Merino and totals 1,133 yards. I spun this on my Majacraft Aura with the lace kit. I'd have to say this is probably one of the most heavenly things I've spun... every once in awhile I have to pick it up and feel how irresistible soft it is. Optim Merino is on par with Cashmere on softness and has a beautiful sheen to it.

Another gorgeous colourway! I knit and crochet, but I don't yet spin - but seeing the amazing handspun yarns that show up here on dA makes me want to learn.

Thanks! I find it quite relaxing to spin plus with my spindle I can spin anywhere.. using up all that free time waiting in lines hehe. Though I find sometimes I spin more than I knit LOL

That just means that you have plenty of yarn for when you DO want to knit. =) =)

I find that I take my knitting with me almost everywhere - something small like a sock, that I can work on when in line, or waiting at the doctor's office, etc. What is it about yarn that's so attractive, I wonder?

how it feels and the colors are what gets me. My skin can be quite sensitive when it wants to be so I stray away from anything that could be scratchy. The softer the better!! I love to knit socks its been awhile though. I'm currently knitting a scarf that's up in my latest journal post and just started the Color Affection shawl a couple days ago. :)

I adore knitting socks - they're my favourite project, really. I absolutely agree about the softness of yarn. I love working with alpaca - my son's grandparents raised alpacas until just recently, and she processes her own fibre, so I've been very lucky to get some home-grown, home-spun alpaca to knit. It's heavenly - so soft, and so very warm.

For me, part of the joy of knitting is the process of creating. I think it must be so much more wonderful when you create the spun yarn, as well, before you knit it. I definitely have to get a handle on spindle spinning - no place for a wheel where I live right now - and give it a try. =)

I do love Alpaca! Have you ever dealt with Suri Alpaca.. it's a whole different story!! The yarn that was spun on the Turkish spindle is Suri.. It is by far the most difficult fiber I've worked with. It's quite the pain to deal with but the end result makes it so worth it. :)

Nope, I can't say that I've ever worked with Suri Alpaca. When I have the spare funds, I should look for some. =)

Right now, I'm knitting with a yarn from SWTC called TOFUtsies. It's sock yarn made of superwash wool, soysilk, cotton and chitin - yes, chitin. As in, made from shrimp and crab shells. It's a natural antibacterial agent, so the yarn makers say. =)

It's a very interesting fiber it has a very long staple length and is very silky quite different from the normal kind of alpaca. Here's what a Suri Alpaca looks like [link]

That sock yarn sounds pretty nice!! I'm currently knitting with Silky Alpaca Lace by Classic Elite. It's really nice but boy is it thin :o never knitted with such fine lace yarn before!
