Artist's Comments

This is the second in a series of 10 images that I am creating for my senior project. The series is called "Butterfly Flowers". Not sure of the exact species of this flower but I normally refer to it as a "Tiger Lily" For this one I used the striping pattern of the The Magnificent Owl Butterfly Caligo atreus which is native to Costa Rica.

Please view the Detail Image

**updated** I made the image a touch lighter

The Process:
Flowers taken in my studio with my 40D+100mm macro and strobe lighting with a black fabric background.

The RAW files are adjusted and converted to jpg.

The butterflies were taken in RAW as well at the Butterfly House in Whitehouse Ohio with the 300D+100 mm macro and 500D filter

The flowers and butterflies are then combined in Photoshop.

The final images will be printed on dA canvas with "Butterfly I" as a 16 by 20 and the rest as 11 by 14.

Oooh, the texture, yes. ^___^ The previous one I saw had more of the shapes of the butterflies' wings and I was looking for that again. ^^;

Wonderful flower. The colours are incredible and the pattern work is well suited. Very Exotic in appearance.
