This is the first in a series of 10 images that I am creating for my senior project. The series is called "Butterfly Flowers". This particular flower is called the Butterfly Clerodendrum Clerodendrum ugandense and is native to Africa. The butterfly scales used are from the Grey Pansy Junonia atlites which is native to South Asia.
The Process: Flowers taken in my studio with my 40D+100mm macro and strobe lighting with a black fabric background.
The RAW files are adjusted and converted to jpg.
The butterflies were taken in RAW as well at the Butterfly House in Whitehouse Ohio with the 300D+100 mm macro and 500D filter
The flowers and butterflies are then combined in Photoshop.
The final images will be printed on dA canvas with "Butterfly I" as a 16 by 20 and the rest as 11 by 14.
Those butterflies are amazing! You picked a great species, it definitely looks like they could be flowers. You don't happen to know what species they are do you?
You are quite confused hehe.. The Butterfly Flower is a real life flower that looks like butterflies What is manipulated is I added the butterfly scales onto the flowers to emphasize that they look like real butterflies.
This is absolutely beautiful! The patterns on the flower almost look like finger prints, making it seem almost unreal. At the same time the reflections from the waxy parts of the plant makes a beautiful contrast in the difference in texture. I'm sorry I'm just blabbing, I know nothing about photography haha.
