I know this isn't the best shot of her but its the best one I have so far. She was born on April 3rd and we were fortunate to get to see her. Was great to watch her scurrying around. Still needs to work on her coordination. She kept on jumping on small branches and doing flips and twirling off them. :giggle:

Here's more info on Azizi. This is the only article I could find but its quite out of date since they did find out its a female and they have already named her.

"What’s black and white and jumps all over?

It’s Binder Park Zoo’s new baby colobus monkey. The new arrival was born on April 3rd and is Binder Park Zoo’s first birth of the year. Visitors to the Zoo will have the opportunity to see mom and baby on exhibit beginning opening day April 26, 2006. At this time, because of the baby’s positioning and closeness to its mother a gender cannot be determined.

This is the first baby colobus monkey to be born at Binder Park Zoo and is a significant step towards conservation of this species. Many monkey species, including the colobus, are in grave danger of two escalating problems in Africa. The first being deforestation, which results in a loss of habitat and the second is the Bushmeat Crisis, which is formed of an illegal network of poachers who hunt and kill the colobus for their fur and their meat. The destruction of this species is advancing at an alarming rate. According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) through which Binder Park Zoo is accredited, the Bushmeat crisis is the most significant and immediate threat to wildlife populations in Africa today."

Well I love this ppicture and I understand the need to save this beautiful species but africa has a huge meat shortsage and people are starving for food so they eat any meat they can. The best way to stop this is instead of wasting money tracking down the poachers put the money toward feeding the many starving people of that beautiful country. Millions of dollars each year is wasted on this when they could fight the problem more directly by feeding the poor and making sure no poor person goes unfed. By doing his we could save many animal species and children as well.

That is a good idea. Although I know I've heard that united states has tried to give food to other countries in africa and what ends up happening is the government hoards it to themselves. Also here's more info on the bushmeat crisis [link]

Hehehe actually my plan to end world hunger is with the Canada Geese. If you know anything about them they are a protected species that has run amuk through the states and is completely out of control. I remember when I was little on we'd see one goose here one goose there. Now you see two geese here and 16 goslings and two geese over there and a dozen goslings. You can go for a walk in the park and there's geese poop everywhere you go :giggle: They have become quite a pest but no one is allowed to hunt them so the only way life ends for them is at the paws and jaws of another animal. I say we let open season on them :P and then give the geese to the hungry  Not that anyone would seriously do that though but its a thought. :giggle:

wikipedia is my favorite way of finding out answers to many questions, but what amazes me is that scientist cant see the answer of the HIV question even though it is right before them I tend to think that they simply dont really want to find the answer, because then they would lose all those grants the huge amount of money this disease is generating for the pharmaceutical companies. Look at the monkeys and how they live, they eat an all natural diet with not preservative and they dont have doctors shooting them up with triple antibiotics every time they get sick. They live and eat the way they are suppose too. There has been a cure for AIDS for 10 years now and they still wont admit it because they will lose billions if the public stopped listening to their lies.

I agree about the geese thing but the reason those governments do that is because they know they will get away with it. What I am saying is if the governments {Which they really dont want to do} really wanted to help people they would quit wasting the money on programs that cost more money then they are worth. Even many church groups are guilty of doing this. They go over and tell these people look at all these things we have to give you, we will give you all this food, but only if you dress like us and go to church and become good little robots. Then they teach them farming methods that dont work on that soil. the only way these people will get the food is if someone who doesnt want to change them goes over and hands it to them directly. I have heard about the problem with the geese's and I remember they actually taste pretty good.

he's cute, but the question about "saving" the race. are we really "saving" them by putting them into captivity and therefore changing their habitat?

evanita, I'm not attacking you here, just the article. I don't think zoos are "saving" animals at all.
